The metaphor of running a marathon is used a lot in society. “Its a marathon, not a sprint!” they say. While the comparison to running a marathon is relevant to a lot of scenarios, the things you learn while training for a marathon are also super relevant to everyday life.
When you train for a marathon, everything from your heath, to your schedule, to your mental strength is pushed to the extreme. But these extremes teach us important lessons about ourselves that can be used in all aspects of our lives. I recently shared that it was the 5 year anniversary of when I got laid off from my dream job as a product designer at Target. For me, my job wasn’t just a job. It was something that me and the people around me had worked so hard for. I was a straight A, all of the honor clubs and sports, deans list while juggling jobs and internships type of person. I had done everything to earn my job, and did everything right while there, but still was one of the unlucky people who got let go that day.
It shattered me.

I always thought I would dread turning 30. Like thats SO old right? I feel like there is a lot of pressure on us to have certain milestones accomplished before we turn 30, and it’s considered that everything goes downhill from there.
What’s funny is that I feel like I am the happiest and most content in my life as I approach the big milestone! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve made taking care of my body a huge priority and feel better than I ever have. I also feel like I have finally learned to stand up for myself and walk away from toxic people, relationships, and situations.
Through the ups and downs, I’ve learned a few thing that I wish I could tell my 20 year old self!
