I recently shared my mini makeover in my blogger home office. I use this room to store a lot of my closet, especially my shoe collection. I used to dream of being able to afford designer shoes long before I ever went to fashion design school, and to me, they represent how hard I have worked in my career!
When I first moved into my house, I found a bookcase on the side of the road that I loaded into my car and used to store my shoes and purses. As I’ve finally grown up a little bit and can actually afford furniture, I wanted to get the monstrosity out of the room and replace it with something a little nicer.

When life becomes busy and it feels like you are only home to sleep some days, it’s hard to stay on top of organization and feel like you’re getting ahead. I’ve found that the more I simplify and the more time I invest in organizing my life, the more free time I have to enjoy and relax.
Every weekend, I set aside an hour or so to fully prepare for the week– I pack my breakfasts, snacks, and lunches, I plan work outfits, workout outfits, and pack bags for after work activities. It seems excessive, but it really helps during the week when I can just get up and go in the morning and I’m also not scrambling to prepare each night.
I also try to take a little time each week to simplify– whether it is cleaning out the fridge, organizing a junk drawer, or cleaning out the linen closet. 20 minutes spent on any one of these tasks makes for an easier day to day routine. Need sunscreen? It’s in the sunscreen bin! Need a towel? They’re neatly stacked and the pile won’t collapse on you!
Here are my top tips for taking time to simply your life:

Purchasing a Madewell bag has been on my lust list (this is a thing right?) for a while. I *almost* bought on a few years back but there was a rumor of layoffs at my company and I something told me to hold off and save my money. I ended up getting laid off and switched to money-survival mode.
Flash forward 2 years and I am back at my same job and was in need of a new bag. Madewell had some great sales over the holidays so I finally got my dream bag and even got it monogrammed. I take very good care of it and use a leather protectant which has saved me from a few spills and walking miles in rainy NYC.
This weekend, I was at dinner with my parents when my dad said ‘what’s on the bottom of your purse??’. I thought it was a shadow, but quickly realized the bottom of my bag was covered in water.

I always tell people that the goal of my house is to make it look like no one lives there. Extreme? Maybe. But you never know when HGTV is going to show up at your door. If you don’t have the time to keep everything looking perfect, here are some easy tips to create a more inviting space.
1. Make your bed every day. I know it takes a whole 2 minutes that you don’t have, but take the time and add it into your morning routine. It makes your room look put together, which can make you feel less stressed throughout the day. And it’s so much nicer to go to sleep in a nicely made bed than a mess of blankets.
