My Spring Front Step Makeover

It finally hit 50 degrees in Minnesota, which means it was time to take down the left over Christmas decorations on my front step. It felt so good saying goodbye to the remnants of winter! I realized that I was very overdue for some new front step decor, and was excited to shop for it. On my list were new pots, faux plants to fill them (for now, since its still too cold for live plants!), and a new doormat.

Like always, my shopping involved heading to Target!

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

If you own your home, now is the time to complete your fall maintenance tasks to ensure your house is ready for the winter. It’s important to stay on top of things so that they don’t end up costly problems down the road! Did you know if you don’t turn the water off to your outdoor hoses AND drain them out, they can freeze and explode during the winter? Take it from me, that’s not a fun problem to have!

Preparing your yard for winter also helps save headaches in the spring– if you keep your gardens and lawn free of leaves, you won’t end up having to clean up soggy leaves when the snow melts.

Here are the steps that I follow every fall to make sure my home is ready for the changing seasons.

Tour My Summer Outdoor Decor

This year, I wanted to update my patio with new furniture that gave more comfortable seating and was just better looking than the old bistro table that I used to have. I found a really good deal on a Opal House chair set from Target that had a fun boho vibe. The set was also great because it came with cushions and pillows for the chairs. After getting the new set, I decided to redesign all of my outdoor living space to fit with the boho look!

Here are my must-do’s for the summer months to keep my house in good condition, inside and out.

Garage Door Refresh

As I was doing my yearly cleaning of the siding on my house, I noticed that my garage door was starting to look really dingy, even after I cleaned it, and I knew it was time for a refresh!

After cleaning, I wiped it down with a liquid sanding solution and let that dry, and then refreshed with white paint. It took 2 heavy coats of paint to get even coverage across the texture of the garage door, and I made a lot of effort to do a neat job around the seals on the edges, so it ended up being a much bigger project than I had anticipated!

Landscape Ideas for the Ultimate Curb Appeal

Creating and maintaining curb appeal for your house is a big undertaking and takes a lot of upkeep. The work isn’t easy and most lawns and plants require frequent maintenance. But, curb appeal is also what can add a lot of financial and visual value to your home without investing a lot of money.

My advice for creating the ultimate curb appeal is to have a plan, keep plants simple, and keep up the maintenance for lasting value. After my great yard makeover, I only have to spend a few hours a weekend maintaining my lawn and gardens to keep my home looking beautiful.

Here are some of my favorite inspiration homes for curb appeal to give you some ideas of how simple (or elaborate) you can be.
