I have a soft spot in my heart for antique furniture. Back in the day, it was made so beautifully with quality materials, and it was made to last forever. Now days, a lot of furniture is made to be disposable and just doesn’t have the same beauty. I try to incorporate antique furniture into my home where I can– I refinished my great grandfather’s mahogany dresser, and it’s one of my favorite pieces in my home. August becomes such a busy month as summer wraps up and we prepare for fall. Sometimes we spend so much time looking ahead, that we don’t take the time to enjoy the present. This month’s inspo is all about slowing down and taking time to enjoy the everyday!
I’ve always loved the natural look of woodwork in a home and I’m so glad the trend of painting everything white is starting to come to an end. Natural wood can last for hundreds of years and can be refinished again and again to look like new. As I’ve done projects in my house, I’ve tried to stick to the original wood character as much as possible, which has meant a lot of restoration projects.
I’m loving the trend of light to medium wood that is finished to show the beauty of natural grain. It can create a great focal spot for any room. See some of my favorite inspo below!
Summer is just around the corner and it is a really fun time to get tropical and refresh your wardrobe with colorful updates. Here are some of my favorites:
I’ve recently talked about my big kitchen remodel, but one of the smaller tasks is changing out my wall color. Right now, it is a retro mint green color, which I actually really love. But, I feel like my house started to become a hodge podge of colors between each room after I did my first round of painting after purchasing my house.
As I’ve done overhauls in each room, I’ve been toning down the color a little bit. I actually stuck close to my original palette, but just found a grayer, softer version of each color that refreshes and ties everything together more. My advice when painting a room is that the color is always going to be double as bold as you think it will be, so maybe take a step down from what you think you’ll like.
We’ve finally made it to spring! I love this time of year when the flowers in my yard start popping up as if winter never even happened. I try to bring as much fresh flowers and greenery into my home as possible.
My favorite flowers are the peonies and lilacs from my yard because they smell amazing. Instead of giant arrangements that are difficult to maintain, I’m loving collections of jars and vases to create pretty displays. For my table, I mixed new vases from Target’s Hearth & Hand collection with an vintage bottle in a similar tone and added a pop with tulip stems.
