Summer is just around the corner and it is a really fun time to get tropical and refresh your wardrobe with colorful updates. Here are some of my favorites:
I’ve recently talked about my big kitchen remodel, but one of the smaller tasks is changing out my wall color. Right now, it is a retro mint green color, which I actually really love. But, I feel like my house started to become a hodge podge of colors between each room after I did my first round of painting after purchasing my house.
As I’ve done overhauls in each room, I’ve been toning down the color a little bit. I actually stuck close to my original palette, but just found a grayer, softer version of each color that refreshes and ties everything together more. My advice when painting a room is that the color is always going to be double as bold as you think it will be, so maybe take a step down from what you think you’ll like.
We’ve finally made it to spring! I love this time of year when the flowers in my yard start popping up as if winter never even happened. I try to bring as much fresh flowers and greenery into my home as possible.
My favorite flowers are the peonies and lilacs from my yard because they smell amazing. Instead of giant arrangements that are difficult to maintain, I’m loving collections of jars and vases to create pretty displays. For my table, I mixed new vases from Target’s Hearth & Hand collection with an vintage bottle in a similar tone and added a pop with tulip stems.

As I’ve been working on my kitchen remodel project, I’ve started thinking about new decor pieces to go along with the refresh. Also because I’m so antsy, I want to start re-decorating already.
I struggle with finding artwork pieces because I am drawn to authentic artwork (aka not just a printed canvas from IKEA). But I’m also balling on a budget, so I can’t afford to just commission real art. As I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for ideas, I came across some amazing vintage botanical prints that had free downloads to be printed. They are the perfect retro-vibe for my kitchen!
Here are my favorite downloadable prints:
When I first purchased my house, it was a huge space for someone just out of college who didn’t have nice (or any) furnishings. I made due with what I could pull together from hand-me downs, to things that I found on the side of the road and refinished. I’m so grateful for this time in my life because it taught me the value of working really hard for something and being creative to make due.
As I’ve been able to add more thoughtful pieces to my house, I’ve also had to learn the lesson of taking things away. As a decorator, I like to add more and more pretty things to a space, but sometimes doing less can be significantly more.
This weeks inspiration comes from living colorfully. Color can give us such an emotional reaction that we often don’t think about. Let’s brighten today with a collection of pretty colorful things.
