As the designer of a kids home collection, I spend a lot of time paging though nursery design catalogs and Pinterest looking for trends and inspiration. When developing product for my collection, my goal is to make trendy accent pieces that help create a fun look for a room. I’ve pulled together some of the top decorating trends and easy ways to create the look yourself.
Sleeping Beauty
Pale sleepy pinks and grays are a sophisticated option for girls rooms instead of traditional bubblegum pinks. The subtle color palette has more longevity to refresh over time if you don’t enjoy repairing a room over and over. I love including plush and fluffy textures along with sleepy moon and cloud characters.
This look can be achieved with wall murals or artwork, soft lighting, mobiles, and fun pillows. Our A to Zzz quilt and Confetti Cloud pillow are a perfect way to create the dreamy look.
Old School Sporty
Sporty themes are an easy go-to for boys rooms, but they can go from well-intentioned to cheesy pretty quickly. Going with a vintage vibe offers a refreshed alternative. Instead of sporty bright colors, a color palette with neutrals paired with soft blues give a more livable look.
To create this look, stick to simple patterns on bedding and textiles such as stripes or plaids. The old-school sport theme is all about authentic details such as great art and unique decor items. How cool is the baseball chandler? The Monster + Dot football collection pillows are also a great way to bring in the old school sporty look without over-doing the theme.
Out to Sea
Nautical is another easy to create theme for kids rooms. Although heavily used for boys rooms, I love the idea for girls and gender neutral nurseries too. The nautical look can feel really refreshed by limiting the color palette to airy whites and neutral wall colors with one or two pop colors. Although you may not be able to literally build a ship above your child’s bed, a few accent pieces can still establish the theme.
Wall decor and anchor motifs are an easy way to create the nautical look. Map prints are another trendy motif and are available on both boys and girls quilts at Monster + Dot. Whale-shaped pillows in both blue and gold metallic are another fun addition.
